I had no idea what to expect that day, I just had the urgency in my heart to be there. It was the day before that I realized, I probably should find a group to go with rather than on my lonesome. I was able to link up with some great women (and men!) to march the streets of Los Angeles in honor of Women’s Rights, LGBTQ Rights, Civil Rights, and HUMAN Rights. I knew there would be a lot of street photography, but I wanted to tell a story. I wanted to get insight from the people there. Over the hours we were in transit to get downtown LA, and the hours we were marching, I was able to connect with people. I asked everyone I spoke to one simple question: Why are you marching today? With an array of answers, I think the women in their 60s and 70s really stuck with me….this is not the first time for them, like it was me. They’d already been down this road, both literally and figuratively. It was heartbreaking to see the disappointment, yet so very moving to see the determination and perseverance in their eyes.
Below is my story of that day, what I experienced which I will never really be able to describe. My body covered in goosebumps, I felt so honored to be a part of the 700k+ peaceful protestors in Los Angeles.
